Struggles of Ek Nath Pawar’s Family: A Truck Driver’s Fight for Survival Amidst Challenges

NEWS CHARIOT : – In the Sindkhed Raja Taluka of Buldhana district, Ek Nath Tukaram Pawar and his wife, Lalitha Pawar, have been living with their three daughters in a truck for the past decade. Despite facing financial difficulties that make it hard for them to meet their daily needs, Ek Nath continues to drive a truck alongside his wife, who also assists in driving. The family struggles to provide two meals a day while transporting goods between Pune and Nagpur, facing constant harassment from RTO and traffic police through illegal extortions.

Ek Nath Pawar’s family, living in difficult conditions, finds themselves fighting a battle for survival. They had purchased a truck in 2023 by taking a loan from Mahindra, but technical problems with the truck have often left them stranded on the road, affecting their income. Pawar shared that the company provided no support when these issues arose, adding to their hardships.

Every month, Pawar has to pay an installment of ₹68,500 for the truck loan. Due to insufficient income, they manage to save money by staying together as a family. The pressure has led Ek Nath to even contemplate suicide at times, as he battles immense mental stress. Despite these struggles, his wife Lalitha continues to inspire their daughters to pursue education, though raising them in such conditions presents its own set of challenges.

The Pawar family’s struggles are not unique, as many truck drivers face similar issues with extortion and financial difficulties. To help, Prahlad Agarwal and Dinesh Agarwal from the Gopal Parivar Foundation, along with Narendra Mishra, President of the Bhichara Transport Service Organization, have pledged their support. The Pawar family hopes for assistance from the government and social organizations, especially in the form of truck loan relief and educational support for their children.

The transport sector faces numerous issues that need proper policy intervention. If the administration doesn’t address these concerns, many truck owners and families like the Pawars will continue to suffer. Several organizations, including the Gopal Parivar Foundation and Bhichara Transport Service Organization, have pledged to support the Pawar family in their fight for a better future.
