Tahawwur Rana Brought to India Amid Tight Security; Bulletproof Convoy Deployed

NEWS CHARIOT:-Tahawwur Rana, the key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, has been extradited to India from the United States after nearly 16 years. In anticipation of his arrival, security arrangements in Delhi were significantly intensified. A Canadian national of Pakistani origin, Rana is suspected of aiding the Lashkar-e-Taiba in orchestrating the 2008 Mumbai attacks that claimed over 160 lives.
Rana was transported from Palam airport to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in a high-security bulletproof vehicle, accompanied by a heavily armed convoy. The Delhi Police Special Cell was placed on high alert, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos were deployed at strategic locations, particularly around the airport.
Sources revealed that a “Marksman” vehicle—an armored, fully bulletproof car used for transporting high-risk individuals—was kept ready as part of the security convoy. This type of vehicle is typically used for transporting terrorists or dangerous criminals under maximum protection to courts or agency offices.
Upon arrival, the NIA officially arrested Rana and plans to present him virtually before a court. He will subsequently be placed in judicial custody and held in the high-security ward of Tihar Jail. While in NIA custody, Rana will be interrogated regarding the role of Pakistani state actors in the 26/11 attacks. His questioning is expected to provide critical information about the wider conspiracy and involvement of foreign elements in the attacks.
In a related development, the central government has appointed senior advocate Narender Mann as the Special Public Prosecutor for the case. Mann will represent the NIA in both special and appellate courts. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification confirming his appointment for a term of three years or until the case reaches its conclusion.
The extradition and formal arrest of Tahawwur Rana marked a major breakthrough in India’s efforts to bring all perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks to justice. The case is now poised to enter a crucial phase with fresh investigations and courtroom proceedings expected in the coming weeks.
