Team Shivangi: State’s First Female Commando Unit Deployed for Rescue Mission

NEWS CHARIOT:-In a groundbreaking move, the state has launched its first-ever female commando team, “Team Shivangi,” under the leadership of SP Janaki Sharmila. This historic initiative is a testament to the growing role of women in law enforcement and their ability to handle critical, high-stakes situations.

The mission that marked the debut of Team Shivangi was a rescue operation in the dense Mamada forest near Nirmal, where four women had become trapped while gathering resources. The group, which had lost their way in the dark, ended up deep inside the forest, far from safety. In a swift and courageous response, SP Janaki Sharmila led the female police team into the forest to rescue the stranded women, showcasing the strength and determination of women in such challenging environments.

The success of the mission owes much to the rigorous preparation of the female constables who were selected to form Team Shivangi. These officers underwent 45 days of intensive training that focused on physical endurance, combat skills, and survival tactics. The training covered a wide range of scenarios, including map reading, strategic planning, counter-attacks, and responding to unexpected threats. Additionally, the team was equipped with essential knowledge on the use of explosives and other tactical tools required in high-risk operations.

SP Janaki Sharmila, a strong advocate for gender equality in law enforcement, was determined to prove that women are just as capable as their male counterparts in handling complex and dangerous tasks. Her vision led to the creation of Team Shivangi, a unit designed to break barriers and pave the way for more women in commando roles.

The official launch of Team Shivangi was held at the Collectorate, with District In-charge Minister Seethakka presiding over the event. This marks a significant step towards empowering women in policing and demonstrating their vital role in maintaining public safety. As Team Shivangi continues to gain recognition, it stands as a powerful symbol of women’s strength, courage, and unwavering commitment to serving their communities.
