Telangana Cabinet Approves of Major Women’s Empowerment Policy

NEWS CHARIOT : The Telangana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, convened on Thursday and approved several crucial decisions after a six-hour-long discussion.The Cabinet approved 42% reservations for BCs in education, employment, and politics.The government expanded the HMDA region up to the RRR buffer zone and decided to develop a “Future City” on approximately 30,000 acres.Several other key proposals received Cabinet approval, including a major policy for women’s empowerment.

In a significant move, the Telangana government approved the Indira Mahila Shakti Mission 2025 policy, aimed at empowering one crore women financially. Under this initiative Self-help groups will be streamlined under a single umbrella organization.The retirement age for women in these groups has been raised from 60 to 65 years.The minimum age to join these groups has been reduced from 18 to 15 years, allowing women aged 15 to 65 to participate.

The government is set to launch the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme, focusing on financial empowerment.Women-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will receive incentives, particularly in defense-related manufacturing.The policy will be officially launched by CM Revanth Reddy at the Women’s Conference on International Women’s Day at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds.The government plans to expand its scheme of women-run petrol stations beyond Narayanpet district by signing agreements with oil companies.Additionally, CM Revanth Reddy will flag off 50 RTC rental buses dedicated to women’s self-help groups.

The Telangana government is committed to implementing these initiatives to strengthen women’s financial independence and boost BC representation in key sectors. Further updates will be provided as the schemes roll out.
