Telangana Council of Higher Education Announces Major Overhaul of Undergraduate Curriculum to Meet Global Demands

NEWS CHARIOT : In a bid to align higher education with global trends and market requirements, the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has initiated a significant revision of the undergraduate curriculum. The TGCHE confirmed on Thursday that the process is underway, with subject-specific committees, led by the Council’s chairman and vice-chairman, overseeing the changes. The revamped curriculum is expected to be implemented soon.

The overhaul is focused on striking a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring that students are better prepared for the workforce and improving their employability. The TGCHE has outlined key objectives for the updated curriculum, including the integration of hands-on learning experiences, development of critical employability skills, and equipping students with competencies that align with industry demands and enhance global competitiveness.

In order to ensure the curriculum meets the needs of all stakeholders, the TGCHE is inviting proposals from academicians, industry experts, students, and policymakers. This collaborative approach aims to create a more inclusive and relevant educational framework.

One of the highlights of the curriculum revision is the introduction of an internship programme designed for recent graduates and young professionals in higher education governance, policymaking, and institutional management. The programme will provide participants with hands-on experience in policy-making, governance, and project management while fostering innovative thinking. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate and recommendations for outstanding performance.

The internship will also adhere to UGC guidelines for research and internships, aiming to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world challenges, such as digital transformation and sustainability.

Key Areas for Improvement and Suggestion:

  • Integration of technology and digital transformation
  • Curriculum revision to align with industry needs
  • Strengthening research and development
  • Faculty development programmes
  • Improving access and equity in education
  • Promoting internships and skill development
  • Fostering an entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem
  • Establishing robust feedback mechanisms
  • Enhancing infrastructure and overall educational quality

The comprehensive curriculum overhaul, along with the introduction of practical internships, reflects a strategic effort to modernize education in Telangana, making students industry-ready and globally competitive.
