“Telangana Government Empowers Women with RTC Bus Rental Scheme Ahead of International Women’s Day”

NEWS CHARIOT:-As International Women’s Day approaches, the Telangana government has announced a significant initiative for women’s welfare. In a move to empower women’s self-employment, the state government has decided to allocate RTC (Road Transport Corporation) buses on rent to women’s self-help groups. This announcement, made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government, aims to provide 150 RTC buses to women’s federations in the first phase.
The women’s self-help groups will receive 150 RTC buses, with each bus being rented for a monthly fee of ₹77,220.The government will also provide bank guarantees to these groups for purchasing the buses, marking a significant step in women’s empowerment in the transport sector. This is the first time in the country that RTC buses will be operated through women’s federations.
The new initiative will be officially launched on March 8, 2025, at a special event at Parade Ground, Secunderabad, in celebration of International Women’s Day. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with cabinet ministers like Sita akka and Ponnam Prabhakar, will inaugurate the buses at the event.
Following the first phase, the government intends to allocate 450 more RTC rental buses to other women’s federations across the state.
In addition to this, after assuming office, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy introduced the “Mahalakshmi Scheme,” which allows women in Telangana to travel for free on RTC buses. This scheme has been well received by women across the state, and it mirrors the Congress party’s promises during the Karnataka assembly elections.
The Congress party had promised free bus travel for women as part of their election manifesto during the Karnataka elections, and having won power, they have begun implementing it. This has also led to increased support for the Congress party in Telangana, where they have promised to implement similar policies if they come to power.
The Telangana government’s decision to allocate RTC buses to women’s self-help groups as part of their self-employment initiative is seen as another step toward empowering women in the state. With this, the government is taking a firm step toward both financial independence and social upliftment of women across Telangana.
