Telangana’s Bhoobharathi Land Reform Law Lauded as National Role Model

NEWS CHARIOT:-Telangana’s pioneering land reform law, Bhoo bharathi, is being recognized as a role model for the entire country, announced State Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. The minister spoke at a Bhoobharathi awareness seminar held in Ghanapur village, Saidapur Mandal, Karimnagar district.

As part of the rollout, the government will conduct seminars in every revenue village starting June 2 to educate people about the new law. Saidapur Mandal has been selected as the pilot area, where over 1,600 land-related applications have already been filed. The Bhoo bharathi law promises swift resolution of land disputes, addressing shortcomings in the previous Dharani system that left many issues unresolved due to lack of clear guidelines.

The new law introduces robust procedures enabling land problem resolution from the Tahsildar level up to the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA). It mandates conducting surveys during land registration, uploading accurate maps to official records, ensuring clarity and reducing future conflicts.

To facilitate this, Telangana is training 6,000 surveyors over a three-month period starting May 27, increasing the current surveyor strength from 256 to 1,000. Each mandal will have 6 to 8 surveyors, and from June 2, every one of the state’s 10,956 revenue villages will have a dedicated revenue officer to directly address land issues.

Importantly, the government has waived all fees for land-related applications and services under Bhoo bharathi, ensuring a completely free process for citizens. Minister Ponguleti emphasized that the law eliminates the need for lengthy court battles and allows for appeals within the administrative framework, speeding up justice.

The minister also highlighted government welfare schemes, including the Indiramma housing project aimed at constructing 20 lakh houses statewide, with 4.5 lakh homes sanctioned in the first phase. Other benefits include ration bonuses, free RTC travel for women, subsidized gas cylinders, and youth and tribal development initiatives.

Furthermore, starting June 2, the government will begin issuing land pattas to eligible farmers who have long cultivated government lands, providing them permanent land ownership and security under the Bhoo bharathi act.
