Tiger Attack Sparks Panic in Medaram-Mahadevpur Forest Border Area

NEWS CHARIOT:-Panic has gripped locals near the Medaram-Mahadevpur forest border in Mulugu and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts following evidence that a tiger killed a buffalo in the region. Forest officials have confirmed the signs indicating a tiger attack and have intensified surveillance and patrols in the affected areas.
In response to the alarming discovery, a massive search operation has been launched to trace the tiger’s movements. Forest staff have been combing through areas such as Bayyakkapet, Kalvapalli, and Narlapur in Tadvai Mandal, Ailapur in Kannaigudem Mandal, and Kondai in Eturnagaram Mandal. Authorities have urged local residents to stay alert but refrain from panicking.
Mulugu District Forest Officer Rahul Kishan Jadhav spoke with Deccan Chronicle, explaining that the dense vegetation, hilly terrains, and water streams in the region create an ideal habitat for wildlife, including tigers, leopards, wild boars, sambar deer, and mountain goats—prey species for the big cats. These areas typically see minimal human activity, allowing tigers to roam freely.
The Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary, which is ecologically linked to major tiger reserves such as Tadoba-Andhari in Maharashtra and Indravati in Chhattisgarh, facilitates frequent tiger movement between these regions. Occasional tiger sightings have also been reported in the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary in Warangal district, which offers similar conditions for big cat habitation.
Since December 2024, tigers have been exploring new territories in search of food and suitable habitats. This expansion has resulted in an increased tiger presence across Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Bhupalpally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Asifabad districts. Eturnagaram, in particular, has become a crucial hub for tiger movement in the erstwhile Warangal region.
Forest officials have urged residents in surrounding areas to stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary trips into the forest, and report any unusual animal sightings immediately to the authorities.
