Tollywood’s Global Domination: Scaling New Heights in Box Office Collections-Upendra
NEWS CHARIOT (Hyderabad, Dec.16) : Tollywood films are not just making waves across India but are now shaking up the global cinema landscape. The industry is setting new benchmarks, with movies easily crossing ₹1,000 crore and even ₹2,000 crore in box office collections. This upward trajectory underscores the growing popularity and influence of Telugu cinema worldwide, fueled by high-quality storytelling, grand visuals, and compelling performances, said the Kannada Superstar Upendra.
Upendra, who has directed and acted in the sci-fi film UI, is gearing up for its Telugu release on December 20. Ahead of the release, the makers organized a grand pre-release event, graced by prominent guests like director Buchi Babu and producer SKN.
The film, set against a science fiction backdrop, has already piqued the curiosity of Telugu audiences, who are eagerly awaiting its release. During the event, Upendra praised the Tollywood industry, highlighting its achievements and creativity, further building anticipation for the film.
He shared a memorable anecdote from 1995, revealing his aspiration to work with Megastar Chiranjeevi. “I spent a year working on a script, hoping to collaborate with Chiranjeevi Garu. It was during that time I realized how deeply Telugu actors analyze a film’s story and dialogues before agreeing to it. That meticulous approach is what made him a Megastar,” Upendra said.
He further added that this experience profoundly influenced his scriptwriting process, leading him to make significant improvements in his craft over the years.
lauded the Telugu audience for their openness to talent beyond language barriers. “If you have talent, language doesn’t matter; Telugu people will wholeheartedly support you. I’m fortunate to be among those you appreciate,” he said.
He also expressed admiration for director Buchi Babu, stating, “I was amazed after watching Uppena. I couldn’t believe such remarkable execution in a debut film. No wonder Ram Charan gave him an opportunity.”
