Virender Sehwag Reveals Top-5 Greatest ODI Batters of All Time

NEWS CHARIOT : In a recent appearance on the Crickbuzz show, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag shared his opinions on the Top-5 All-Time Greatest ODI Batters. Sehwag’s list includes some legendary names from across the cricketing world, with an intriguing ranking order that sparked interest.
While Sachin Tendulkar was given the second spot in Sehwag’s list, what stood out was the ranking of the number one player. Sehwag named Virat Kohli as his number one, praising the modern-day master for his exceptional ability to chase down targets and play under pressure. Sehwag highlighted Kohli’s transformation from a young player to a complete cricketing superstar, particularly noting his fitness and consistency post-2011-12, when he became an indispensable part of Indian cricket.
Talking about his all-time top-5, Sehwag said, “Virat Kohli is a chase master. His ability to play amazing innings at crucial times sets him apart.” He further commended Kohli for his dedication to fitness and how he has evolved with time.
On Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag fondly recalled their batting partnerships, saying, “Batting with Sachin felt like hunting with a lion in the jungle. All eyes were on him while I quietly played my role.” He also praised Tendulkar as an inspiration and a role model for him.
Sehwag also added Inzamam-ul-Haq to his list, calling him one of the best Asian ODI batters. He remarked on Inzamam’s calmness and ability to control matches, even in high-pressure situations.
As for AB de Villiers, Sehwag gave him the fourth spot, citing his unique style of batting and ability to hit sixes with ease. Sehwag stated, “AB de Villiers had his own way of playing. His batting technique was unconventional but effective.”
Finally, Chris Gayle, the West Indies powerhouse, earned the fifth spot. Sehwag acknowledged Gayle’s tremendous ability to dominate bowlers, especially fast bowlers, while recalling Gayle’s remarkable century in the 2002-03 series against India.
