Excise Department Forms Special Narcotics Control Team to Curb Drug Menace

NEWS CHARIOT (HYDERABAD, JAN.6) : In a significant move to combat the rising drug menace affecting youth, the Telangana Excise Department has announced the formation of a dedicated Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) control team. Director of Enforcement V.B. Kamalasan Reddy shared this development in a statement on Sunday.

The narcotics team will comprise highly skilled personnel from the Telangana Excise Department, including members from Enforcement and District Task Forces (DTF). Those demonstrating expertise and enthusiasm for this critical mission are being prioritized for selection. The team will include a Circle Inspector, two Sub-Inspectors, two Head Constables, and other constables, totaling 15-20 members. The selection process is currently underway.

Of the four State Task Force (STF) teams, two will operate under the Civil Police Department, while the remaining two will function under the Excise Department. Each police STF team will be supervised by an Additional SP and two DSPs, whereas the Excise teams will be overseen by Superintendents.

The primary focus of the narcotics team will be to address the growing drug consumption within the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) limits. The team will target illegal substances such as morphine, heroin, marijuana, cocaine, hashish oil, poppy straw, and other narcotics to ensure strict control over their circulation.

This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to tackling the drug crisis and safeguarding public health and safety.
