Young Woman Drowns While Filming Instagram Reel at Manikarnika Ghat

NEWS CHARIOT:-A tragic incident unfolded at the sacred Manikarnika Ghat when a young woman drowned while attempting to shoot an Instagram reel. According to eyewitnesses, the woman entered the waters with the intention of recording a dance video. However, she lost her balance, slipped, and was swept away by the strong currents of the Ganges.

The incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media. One of the most heart-wrenching moments in the footage is the sound of her child screaming “Amma” as the woman fell into the river. The video has sparked a wave of emotion and concern across the internet.

Local authorities launched a search operation immediately, but as of now, the woman’s body has not been recovered. Police officials are continuing rescue and recovery efforts with the support of local divers and emergency teams.

This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred due to risky content creation for social media. In a similar incident last year, 26-year-old travel influencer Anvi Kamdar lost her life while filming an Instagram reel near Kumbhe Waterfalls in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. Kamdar accidentally fell into a 350-foot-deep gorge while shooting a video with friends and later died in the hospital despite medical efforts.

The recent incident has reignited debate over the dangers of social media-driven stunts. Many netizens have expressed their grief and anger, calling such risky behavior “reckless” and “senseless.” Social commentators have urged influencers and youth to prioritize safety over internet fame.

As the search continues, the chilling memory of the women’s final cry—“Amma”—lingers in the minds of many, highlighting the heavy price sometimes paid for fleeting online attention.

Authorities are appealing to the public to avoid life-threatening activities for the sake of content and to act responsibly when engaging in social media trends.
